Kaiser Medical Center South Lawn Plaza and Healing Garden Walk
Modesto, California
This garden walk and activity lawn is located on the south side of the hospital support wing in an area that will eventually become part of the central courtyard at full campus buildout. This area was foreseen to function as a gathering place for staff on special campus occasions. A garden walkway extends from the entry plaza through a series of “button” berms defining the lawn’s edge. Shade and ornamental trees help cool the space and soften the building’s mass. Alternating views of the perennial garden and the lawn area along the walkway contribute to the richness of a sense of place. Benches invite patients to pause along the way and provide an alternative destination for staffers on break. pollock+partners 2007
